“VERy high Throughput Satellite-Ground Optical Link”
European H2020-SPACE R&D project
ABOUT VERTIGO
VERTIGO is a 3-year H2020-SPACE European R&D project that aims to develop a new feeder link for satellite communications to enable scalability of GEO-to-ground optical links towards very high throughput (1 Tb/s)
VERTIGO is based on three pillars each addressing a key issue for high throughput optical links: intrinsic communication chain capability to transmit and receive very high bit rates, high and very high-power generation and atmospheric perturbations.
The VERTIGO consortium is composed of 9 partners from 5 European countries and consists of an interdisciplinary team from 6 European industrials (Thales Alenia Space in France, Thales Alenia Space in Switzerland, Thales Research and Technology, Gooch & Housego, Creonic and LEO) and 3 research organisations (ONERA, ETZH, Fraunhofer HHI) with an extensive expertise in the field of space photonics. Immarsat, a telecom operator will represent the end-users side with a contribution in the advisory board in VERTIGO.
